Epiphany Weekend Retreat January 2010What a weekend the small group of us had when we went over to the little village of Bollington to stay at Savio House Retreat Centre. It was a chance to explore and reflect on what the Epiphany is all about and it was done in loads of different ways. On Friday night we were treated to the ‘Gospel according to Tom’ when the volunteer actors re-enacted the nativity story. On Saturday there were three different workshops for everyone to get stuck into which involved hot seating and discussion, a closer look at the three gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh through drama, and a treasure hunt to beat all treasure hunts which ended up at the crib. Throw into all this the fun and laughter throughout the days as well as a party with a super cool quizzle nizzle and a walk which ended with the best snowball fight ever and it was quite a weekend. It was great to be able to welcome Fr Ste and the rest of the animate gang on Sunday to celebrate mass together which was a great way to finish a great weekend.
Next Youth Alive
Youth Night - TGI Friday!!!TGI Friday is a new venture for Animate Youth Ministries. It is the name of our new weekly youth night down in our new Life and Soul café. Everyone likes to relax at the end of a week working hard at school, college, or uni, especially during exam time, so what better way to do that than to come down to the Life and Soul café in St Helens. It will be a place to come and spend the evening with other people of your age group as well as spending time each week doing different activities which may include exploring a different topic or theme, or simply chilling. There will be food and a tuck shop available during the evening and each week we will finish the night with a time of prayer.
Animate Volunteers 2010/2011Each year animate relies on an enthusiastic, creative, energetic and dynamic group of gap year volunteers. Over a year we work with over 9,000 young people on retreat days, mission weeks, weekend retreats, TGI Friday, Youth Alive, Lourdes and much more. If you are interested in joining the animate team as a volunteer for next year please get in touch on 01744 740462. From there you can organise coming to visit animate and find out more about what being a volunteer entails. Pax Christi CompetitionEach year Pax Christi organises a competition for young people (15 - 18) which focuses on a particular aspect of peace and peacemaking. This year the contest looks at peace heroes and invites young people to engage in critical reflection on the question of what makes a peace hero and create a DVD or video telling the story of one such person. The competition offers two opportunities for the young people to celebrate and share their work. Two teams will receive an invitation to share their film at the annual Peace History Conference held at London's Imperial War Museum in April 2010. A further team will join teams from several other countries at the Pax Christi Peace House in Florence for an event at which films will be shared and issues of peace and non-violence explored. Sister Helen PrejeanIt was an amazing couple of days with Sr Helen in the middle of November. Firstly on Sunday 15th at De la Salle school, where not only did we hear inspiring words from Sr Helen but also Gee Walker, the mother of Anthony Walker, about the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation in life. Secondly was a morning with Sr Helen at St Mary’s, Lowe House, for about 300 young people from schools across the Archdiocese (and beyond!) where once again she left people awestruck with her words and even spent time answering questions to the whole group and chatting away to people afterwards too. Sr Helen even had time to join us for lunch at Lowe House before dashing off to another part of the country to share her amazing story. A BIG thank you to Sr Helen for taking time in her busy schedule to share with us here in the Archdiocese of Liverpool.
