Lourdes 2010
Around 500 of us around the Archdiocese may look a bit weary as we have just returned from the 2010 pilgrimage to Lourdes. It was hard work, physically and emotionally, as everyone truly entered into the pilgrimage experience, serving the sick and celebrating our faith. For pictures and information about next years pilgrimage Click here or go to the Lourdes page by clicking on ‘Lourdes’ at the top of the page.

Youth Alive 2010
Next Youth Alive: Lourdes Reunion Mass. Sunday 5th September. St Mary’s, Lowe House, St Helens, WA10 2BE. 6:30pm. As you read this we may not have even got to Lourdes yet but always good to plan ahead and book this date in your diary! The Lourdes Reunion Mass is always a good chance to catch up with friends made on the pilgrimage and to continue that spirit of Lourdes. It’s not only those that have been to Lourdes that can come, as always it is open to those 15+ and could be a great start to the new school/college/university year. |

World Youth Day 2011 – 9th - 22nd August 2011
World Youth Day is an international celebration of our Catholic faith as young people. World Youth Day is celebrated each year in our parishes but every 3 to 4 years there is an international gathering of millions of young people from around the world for a week of prayer, activities and celebrations that lead up to an overnight vigil and mass with the Pope. For a number of years the Archdiocese of Liverpool have taken groups to places such as Toronto, Cologne and Sydney. In August 2011 we shall be taking a group to the celebrations in Madrid, Spain. If you would like to find out more then please go to the WYD page for more information. Application forms are now available from the Downloads page.

London Papal Visit
The Archdiocese will be taking 260 representatives to London for the Papal Visit. Animate will be taking 115 and will be joined by coaches from All Hallows (Penwortham), St Edmund Arrowsmith (Ashton-in-Makerfield),and SS Peter and Paul’s (Widnes). There will be around 2500 young people on the Piazza outside Westminster Cathedral with more expected at the vigil in Hyde Park later in the day. The group going with us met together for the first time on Sunday before Youth Alive and everyone is very excited at the prospect of this once in a lifetime opportunity.
Next Meeting – Sunday 5th September. St Mary’s, Lowe House, St Helens, WA10 2BE. 3:30p.m. – 8:00p.m. (includes Youth Alive Mass which is followed by social until 10:00p.m. if you want to stay longer!)

Papal Visit Media: The Papal Visit is drawing near with less than 100 days to go! On the 9th July, myself and 7 other young people attended a media-training day at LACE to train us in how to create ‘joyful noise’ using the social media around the Papal Visit. It was a fun packed day, activities varying from interviewing each other to creating ‘Lego’ radio towers, and we all really enjoyed ourselves. However it isn’t just up to us to make this noise, it’s up to everyone who is excited for the Pope visiting our country. So let’s all work together to truly create joyful, happy, pleasant noise around the Papal Visit and give The Holy Father a warm welcome to the U.K

Time to say Goodbye!
As we bring to a close another year at Animate it is time to say goodbye and thank you to those members of the team who are moving onto pastures new! This year we say goodbye to Maria Pleydell after four years of great work as Assistant and then Team Leader. Not only that but also leaving are Chris Jones, after two years on the team, and Gav Landers, Kirsty Lacey, Sarah Burrows, and Tom Larkin who have given their all this year. It is always sad to say goodbye but we wish them luck in their new ventures. To see what these and past team members are up to these days, check out the Team Page.
Time to say Hello!
We have four new volunteers joining in September. We welcome to Lowe House Amelia Rock, Jack Bartholemew, Leanne Jones, and Sarah Beatty to start the new academic year. Come along and meet them at the Lourdes Reunion Youth Alive in September! Give them a true welcome to the Archdiocese.
Diocesan Youth Cross

The Diocesan Youth Cross started its pilgrimage to Lourdes when it was blessed by Archbishop Patrick Kelly at the Metropolitan Cathedral on Palm Sunday. Since then it has travelled around the diocese with all the coaches spending time with the cross in a variety of ways from services and masses in parishes and schools to processions across town and water sports! Here are just a few of the pictures of it’s journey all the way to Lourdes.

Youth Night - TGI Friday!!!
TGI Friday is a new venture for Animate Youth Ministries. It is the name of our new weekly youth night down in our new Life and Soul café. Everyone likes to relax at the end of a week working hard at school, college, or uni, especially during exam time, so what better way to do that than to come down to the Life and Soul café in St Helens. It will be a place to come and spend the evening with other people of your age group as well as spending time each week doing different activities which may include exploring a different topic or theme, or simply chilling. There will be food and a tuck shop available during the evening and each week we will finish the night with a time of prayer.
