Music Ministry

A group of us sat down to have a discussion on how perhaps we could allow more young people to have an input in the music, scriptures, dramas etc for all the services held for the youth. We came to realise that maybe having adults leading the music for our youth services might not be the way forward and that we should allow young people to lead and bring your own thoughts to the liturgies.

This is why, this year we are trying something very different in regards to what you may have experienced in the past. As we are celebrating the Jubilee Year, we are wanting to introduce to you a new music programme call ‘Pilgrims of Hope Music Ministry’. This programme is designed to enable young people to be in unity with others, offering their own skills and having a voice.

Below I have attached details and do I hope you consider being a part of this new programme. We realise this may be a long time coming and realistically as a young person you should have had more of a say on what we do.

But, this is now your opportunity!  And I hope you may find some value in being a part of it.

Purpose

– We now hope that this group will allow young people in our Archdiocese to be able to have input on liturgies and events throughout the year. To practice music together and build confidence. And in time come to lead worship.

– We are targeting year 9 to the age of 25 to be a part of this music ministry group. We are aware that year 9 students aren’t offered things (such as Lourdes, Eucharistic Ministry etc) to enhance them on their faith journey and this is why we have picked this year group. In doing so, we hope to grow the next generation of Worship Leaders.

-We as adults are able to offer our own experiences to young people and support them in doing the same. We also hope to use external contacts in the future to run workshops to help the young people learn more about being a worship leader and can take these qualities back to a school/parish setting.

What is it?

It is an invitation given to those who may have an interest in music/technology/singing/praise and worship to come together and unite bringing their own gifts with them.

Each session will begin with a time of prayer le by the volunteer staff (2). Each session will end at 5, there will be an optional mass to begin 10 minutes after the end of the gathering. Mass will be approx. 40 minutes and young people will be invited to lead the music, plan the liturgy and put into practice what they have been learning in the session.

Who? Why me?

We are looking for anyone who is year 9 to age 25 to be a part of our NEW Youth Music Ministry.

This is a chance for anyone, no matter what your musical background to come together and unite as a music group.

Everyone can offer something, we are not interested in what grade/ studies/ abilities you might think you have, you are just fine to attend as you are. This is a chance for people who have the same passion/interest in music and in faith to be part of something new and exciting.

What is the group called?

Although we had this idea in 2024 with the start of the Jubilee Year we thought it would be nice to launch this new initiative under the title – Music Youth Ministry, Pilgrims of Hope.

Where do I go from here?

We will be holding four sessions before the end of this academic year.

April 6th – 1st Session – Meet and Greet (Introduction to what Music Ministry is).

May 11th – 2nd Session

June 15th – 3rd Session

June 29th – Youth Alive Mass and Open Mic Night

How do I get involved?

Bring you, your instrument (if you have one) and a friend?!

Animate Youth Ministries, Lowe House, 99 Crab Street, St Helens, WA10 2BE.

If you have any other questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to respond back to me via email.

Think you might know someone?

Our ministry would not work without others contributing their knowledge, time and help. Please if you know anyone in your school, parish or any other setting share this new opportunity for them.

Below I have attached the poster which has all the details needed for a young person to be involved.
