Many of us can find church a bit boring sometimes, sat on a hard bench, singing hymns and listening to the priest give his homily whilst you drift off and think about what you are having for lunch, but isn’t that what church is meant to be like? No! Youth Alive is a monthly Mass for young people around the Archdiocese. It is a mass planned by young people for young people, it’s a chance for you to really get involved in the Mass and change that idea that it is boring. We pick the hymns that are lively and reflective and the music group really bring the hymns to life filling the church with fantastic music, we dramatise the gospels and bring the word of God to life in many different ways. At the Youth Alive Mass young people are really encouraged to get involved in the Mass in everyway, from doing readings, bringing up the offertory to being Eucharistic Ministers and singing praise to God with the help of the music group.

July Youth Alive ReviewWhat a great turn out we had for the Lourdes Departure Mass, St Mary’s was packed to the rafters. It was a fantastic celebration with a number of young people involved in the liturgy and after a day of practice for Lourdes, the music group as always were sounding amazing! It was great to be able to welcome many friends and families of those going to Lourdes, the Papal Visit, World Youth Day and also many people from schools and parishes we have worked with over the last year. It was a celebration tinged with sadness as there were a number of team members to thank before they leave for pastures new in a few weeks. After mass the celebration continued in the café and garden as the band normally known as ‘The Circles’ became ‘The Circles minus Rick feat. the whole animate team’ and played a set that had the place rocking and everyone up dancing. The night finished with some Mission classics like Trading My Sorrows and Jesus Is A Rock!
