Many of us can find church a bit boring sometimes, sat on a hard bench, singing hymns and listening to the priest give his homily whilst you drift off and think about what you are having for lunch, but isn’t that what church is meant to be like? No! Youth Alive is a monthly Mass for young people around the Archdiocese. It is a mass planned by young people for young people, it’s a chance for you to really get involved in the Mass and change that idea that it is boring. We pick the hymns that are lively and reflective and the music group really bring the hymns to life filling the church with fantastic music, we dramatise the gospels and bring the word of God to life in many different ways. At the Youth Alive Mass young people are really encouraged to get involved in the Mass in everyway, from doing readings, bringing up the offertory to being Eucharistic Ministers and singing praise to God with the help of the music group.

Youth alive has been going for 10 years now and we are developing it every month and making it into what you, the young people of our diocese want. This year in particular Youth Alive has had a bit of a revamp in celebration of its decade anniversary. It is a monthly youth event which comes in many forms and it is a great place to meet up with friends you have met in Lourdes or on retreats and a fantastic opportunity to make knew friends and socialise especially at the disco. Youth Alive is a great place for young people who want to share their faith with other like minded young people and get to know knew people from around the Archdiocese, it is a time for praising God, reflecting on our own relationship with God and a place to talk to other people about your faith and learn knew things about God and the world.
I found out about Youth Alive from my school chaplain, but I wasn't sure I would like it at first, and I was worried that I wouldn't know anyone. Eventually I went along with a friend two years ago and we have been going ever since, I've made some brilliant new friends and I'm always excited to meet up with them each month. So if you are fifteen or older and want to experience a different kind of mass, why don't you come along to the next Youth Alive, who knows , you could even find yourself joining us in Lourdes or for World Youth Day in the future! Whatever you get out of Youth Alive thought, it will defiantly help you to understand the importance of mass, the real meaning of all those early Sunday morning, and with at least one lie in each month. November Youth Alive Review
A big thank you goes to St Anne’s in Ormskirk, for their wonderful welcome this month. We were joined by parish priests Fr Godric, Fr Boniface, and local priest Fr Tony, for a great celebration including an open and interactive homily. Starting outside, we had a candlelit procession into a dimly lit church which gave us a great atmosphere. As always the music group were great and we were glad to see that there were a number of St Anne’s parishioners that came to join us for a joyous evening. Thanks to all the young people of St Anne’s and St Bede’s school who contributed not only to the Mass but the social in the parish hall afterwards!
